The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Tuesday, with Taylor Swift leading the nominations, securing eight in total. In a historic turn of events, the Artist of the Year category featured exclusively female nominees, including Beyoncé, Doja, Karol G, Minaj, and Shakira. This marked the first time since the category’s inception in 2017 that all nominees were women. Shakira was also honored with the Video Vanguard Award during the event.
